Cnii Network- The Ministry of Information Industry recently has approved to release Compact Matrix Code (CM code), the Grid Matrix Code (GM code) the two 2D bar code system electronics industry standards, that has filled up the gap of China independent intellectual property rights 2D bar code standards. Compared with 1-D bar code, the application fields for 2D is wide, and it features with large volume, high reliability and confidentiality of strong security, low cost and super rectification, and products being applied in broader market areas. Compared with RFID technology it does not occupy frequency resources, and has greater advantage in cost, safety and power consumption. Once China achieves large-scale application for independent intellectual property rights 2D bar code, it will have profound implications for the development of China's national economy, life and health of people, promotion of different businesses and the ??hollow?? situation changing of information technology.

Han Jun called for speeding up the application

For several years, domestic 2D bar code standards are derived from foreign technology; do not have China's own intellectual property rights, such as PTF417 code of America and Japan??s QR codes, which is approved as China??s standards by National Standards Committee. These foreign 2D bar codes are without special design optimal for Chinese character, inefficient for the Chinese character coding. The core technologies of related equipment are available only in the hands of foreign firms; domestic sales are mostly agents of foreign manufacturers or assembled products. Not only the cost of production is high, the stringent patent protection also leads to high expenses of the domestic 2D bar code reading equipment, existing certain information security risk.

It is really a waste if we have our own standards, but fail to get practical and also large-scale application, not good for gradually changing of the domestic "hollow" status in information technology. Han Jun, the deputy director of the Science and Technology Department of Information Industry Ministry forwardly appealed, in the diffusion conference of China intellectual proper rights 2D bar code standard held recently, the parties to be inspired, strength their confidence through joint cooperation between governmental departments and joint efforts between enterprises and linkage between ministerial and provincial departments to achieve large-scale application of the standard as soon as possible. Han Jun said, in order to reduce the losses for use of 2D bar code reading equipment for enterprises to the minimum; the Department of Science and Technology prepares to make suggestion to the Minister to use development funds for compensation.

Industry chain adopts an open strategy

2D bar code comprises the following links: standard patent owners, the core software developers, hardware manufacturers, operators, application developers and system integrator, media firms, advertisers and users. Tsinghua UNIS, Syscan Technology, Syscan Digital, Zone-yump Foundation Industry have joined this industry. Syscan Digital is the patent owner of above two China independent intellectual property rights 2D bar code standards.
